The Index Industry Association sat down with Laura V. Morrison, Chairperson of Women in ETFs Board of Directors, to learn about the organization’s mission and get her thoughts on their strategic direction, and how Women in ETFs is driving professional growth, talent development and inclusion across the global financial sector.
Q: How would you describe Women in ETFs and its core mission?
Women in ETFs (WE) is a global network committed to connecting, supporting, and inspiring women in the ETF industry. Our mission is to create opportunities for personal and professional growth while advancing the broader ETF ecosystem. Through mentorship, professional development, and leadership visibility, we help members at every career stage build confidence, amplify their voices, and grow their impact — both within their organizations and across the industry.
Q: As Chairperson of the Board, what’s your strategic focus for Women in ETFs in 2025 and beyond?
Our strategic focus is on deepening WE’s global relevance, enhancing internal alignment, and amplifying the voices of our members. In 2025 and beyond, we’re focused on building stronger connections with partners across the ETF value chain, expanding mentorship and speaker training programs, and ensuring our global chapters are united around measurable, mission-driven impact. We aim to make WE not just a network, but a movement that drives inclusion, innovation, and leadership in ETFs worldwide.
Q: How is Women in ETFs creating value for professionals across different career stages?
WE delivers tailored programming that meets professionals where they are — from students and early-career talent to senior executives. Our mentorship program pairs members across experience levels for two-way learning. Our global Speakers’ Bureau and podcast elevate women as visible thought leaders, while leadership roles within WE help members grow their profiles and expand their reach. Whether someone is just entering the industry or looking to lead it, WE offers a platform for connection, support, and growth.
Q: Talent development is a major focus across the financial sector. How does WE support that effort?
Talent development is at the heart of everything we do. WE equips members with tools and opportunities to thrive, from structured mentorship and speaker training to career transition resources and university engagement. We also offer leadership development through chapter roles and industry-facing platforms. Our model helps build stronger internal cultures within firms while elevating a more diverse and confident talent pipeline across the ETF industry.
Q: How is WE approaching inclusion – particularly in a way that resonates across global markets and diverse viewpoints?
Our focus is on providing access and opportunity. We support balanced representation, raise the visibility of underrepresented voices, and partner with firms that see the value in broader engagement. While the terminology might change over time, our guiding principle remains the same: building a stronger, more resilient ETF industry by fostering a full range of talent.
Q: What message do you want to leave with our readers today?
We have an opportunity — and a responsibility — to shape the future of the ETF industry in a way that reflects the diversity of talent and thought leadership available to us. Organizations like Women in ETFs help make that possible. Whether by mentoring others, advocating for inclusion, or stepping into leadership, your voice matters. We invite everyone — women and allies alike — to get involved with Women in ETFs.
